Details :- HX231 was shot down by night-fighter flown by Hptm. Heinz-Martin Hadeball 3./NJG 6 from 6,200m, crashing 1km North of Maxsain. Hptm. Heinz-Martin Hadeball was himself shot-down later during the raid.

Those who died were buried in Maxsain before being re-buried in Rheinberg War Cemetery in 1949.
