HX296 was on a H2S training mission and collided with a tree whilst making an emergency landing at Decoy Farm, Watton near Hutton Cranswick airfield.

The Halifax had not long been airborne when the starboard outer engine burst into flames which then quickly engulfed the starboard wing.
