Leonard Arthur Gream was born on 11th August 1920 in York, Western Australia.

He was the son of Robert Righton Arthur and Hilda May Gream.

Leonard enlisted on 3rd February 1941 in York, Western Australia.

Leonard was married on 27th September 1941 to Mildred Theresa from Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.

Leonard departed Australia for Canada on 16th October 1941 and departed Canada for the U.K. on the 12th November 1941.

Whilst with No.7 A.G.S. in England he scored 83.5%, a very good score.

After training with further units he joined 70 Squadron on 27th July 1942 whom were serving in the Mediterranean Theatre. He completed 35 Missions with 70 Squadron in their Vickers Wellington Ic aircraft. His last flight with them was on the 12th October 1942.

On 26th May 1943 Leonard was discharged to Commission and after having some time off was recommissioned on the 31st August 1943 and within 2 months was attached to 1652 conversion Unit.

Leonard joined 466 Squadron on 3rd February 1944.

On the night of 15th March 1944 whilst flying in Halifax HX266 HD-T they were detailed for an operation on Stuttgart. At 23:23 whilst flying at 20,000 ft a Ju88 was observed 600yds away on the port quarter slightly above them. Leonard informed the pilot for a corkscrew to port and also managed to loose off a couple of rounds at the Ju88. No hits were observed and the Ju88 was lost in the corkscrew manoeuvre.

Leonard had died in the crash on the 18th March 1944 at Wembach at the age of 23.

Leonard was initially buried in Wembach Civil Cemetery, before being re-buried by the allied forces to a dedicated war cemetery in early December 1947.

Leonard is now buried in Durnbach War Cemetery, Germany in area 7, row H, grave 10.
