Handley Page Halifax lll, serial number LV827, code HD-S was built by Handley Page Ltd, Radlett between 14/01/1944 and 01/02/1944.

LV827 was delivered to 466 Squadron which was based at RAF Leconfield in Yorkshire, England and was part of 4 Group in RAF Bomber Command.

It was built as part of contract No.ACFT/1688/C4/C, Requisition No. HA4/E11/41, Order quantity was for 225 B Mklll's.

The Handley Page Halifax lll was powered by 4 Bristol Hercules XVl double row 14 cylinder sleeve valve radial engines, each producing 1615hp. These would enable it to have a maximum speed of 282mph (454 kmh) and a maximum range of 1,260 miles. The Halifax lll had a fuel load of 1,998 gallons and upto another 690 gallons could be used in additional tanks placed inside the aircraft. They could also carry a maximum bomb load of 13,000 lbs.
